Updates about the practice ...............................

The practice will be merging with St pauls and Brunswick House medical practices from October 2016.

We would like to welcome Jackie Shearer and Hazel Boniface our new nurse practitioners to compliment our team.

Dr Burnett is now currently on maternity leave, we hope you will join us in wishing her well during this time.

I promise we will have a newsletter out soon, it has been a very busy time for us admin staff working behind the scenes.

We are very sorry to say goodbye to Dr Alam who has returned to his training practice at Fushill Street.  Dr Brading has recently moved out of the area and will be leaving us at the end of September.  Recruitment of GPs is becoming very challenging for the whole country but it seems especially in Cumbria.

In order to meet the busy winter months ahead we have been planning our staffing levels and have great pleasure in telling you about our two new recruits.

Erica Turnbull - Erica is a very experienced Nurse Practitioner with extensive training.  Erica will be working alongside the doctors dealing with acute medical problems.

Karen Little - Karen is a very expereinced pharmacist who some of you may know from the local Co-op Pharmacy.  Karen will be consulting with patients with various conditions.  But overall Karen will be supporting the doctors with their prescribing and completing medication reviews for patients.  All patients with a medication query will now be directed to Karen in the first instance.

In order to meet continuity with patients Kevin McStay, Paul Beresford-Jones and Tim Sanders will all support us as regular locums until we are able to recruit in to the GP positions.

The practice online patient access soon to include your medical record for you to view.  If you see anything incorrect or missing on your record please put this in writing to your GP who will investigate further. Please note this information is only viewable by you - the registered patient.  All requests for this information should be in writing adressed to Rebecca Foster.

We are pleased to welcome Carlisle Carers and Age Concern to the practice. They will be holding a drop in clinic in the practice on a Monday. Please check with the reception team when they are next due in.

NHS England

How sharing information in your medical records can help the NHS to provide better care - you have a choice to make, please read the full article.

A modern information system has been developed, which will make increased use of information from medical records with the intention of improving health services. The system is being delivered by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) and NHS England on behalf of the NHS.

It is important that the NHS can use this information to get a complete picture of what is happening across health and social care and to plan services according to what works best. The new system will provide joined-up information about the care received from all of the different parts of the health service, including hospitals and GP practices.

Your date of birth, full postcode, NHS Number and gender rather than your name will be used to link your records in a secure system, managed by the HSCIC. Once this information has been linked a new record will be created. This new record will not contain information that identifies you. The type of information shared, and how it is shared, is controlled by law and strict confidentiality rules.
